From parent to director, I've been witness to all aspects of Park West from many different perspectives. And as a result, there are many reasons this place is special to me. As a parent, I valued the safety and respect my and all children received from the staff. As a teacher and board member, I valued the care and dedication I saw every day. And as the director, I value the consistent quality of the staff. When I first came to Park West as a parent in 1982, I knew the coop would be a great environment for my children, but at the time, I didn't really know how much was happening in the classroom. As I became more involved, I was amazed by how much thought and care went into each teacher's response to each child. They continually worked to respond and challenge each child based on their individual developmental level. It was a truly eye-opening moment — one that taught me a whole new language, made me be a better parent at home, and made me want to dedicate my life to making the same difference. That quality — call it dedication, care, commitment — is something that has never changed throughout my involvement at Park West. And, in my opinion, what makes our coop so unique.
