Chris Chen

2-Day AM Teacher

When I was a child, the grownups in my life didn’t ask how I felt or why I thought something was the way it was. I was merely asked for the “right” answer. It never occurred to me that adults were truly interested in my thoughts or beliefs. When I arrived at Park West in 1999, I was in awe of the teachers’ genuine respect and interest in the children’s ideas and feelings. Teachers created curriculum integrated with the child’s ideas in mind. Witnessing this way of teaching young children made me realize that I had to be part of this unique organization. Over the past 19 years, I have been mentored by the most knowledgeable and mindful educators, learned from and laughed with truly brilliant children, and formed lasting relationships with a myriad of families. I am ecstatic that I am now able to send my own three-year-old daughter to Park West. Coming off my two-year hiatus from teaching, I am thrilled to be back in the classroom teaching the 2AM class. The everyday wonderment of two- and three-years-olds is what I hope to spark in each of my students this year.
