School Philosophy

At Park West children are respected as growing individuals who experience each developmental stage in their own way. We take the separation process seriously, making the transition gradual and as anxiety-free as possible for both children and parents.

The classrooms are designed to nurture each child's individuality through a variety of mediums and experiences. Teachers strive to create an emotionally secure environment in which children can work, play, experiment, explore, and create, both alone and with peers.

Park West children are encouraged to make choices, create rules, and initiate activities. Park West's curriculum is play based and influenced by the work of the Swiss epistemologist Jean Piaget. Our guiding principle is that young children learn by constructing knowledge themselves. Rather than learning dictated facts, the children actively construct their knowledge through play and through mutually respectful relationships with their teachers and peers.

Through hands-on experiences and small-group activities, Park West children learn about numbers, literacy, arts, and science in a context that is meaningful to and appropriate for young children.
