Social Committee

The Social Co-Chairs work with their committee members and commercial vendors to produce a minimum of four events per school year. The event schedule currently includes:

  • The Fall General Meeting (held at the school in late September/early October)
  • Parents' Day, often held at end of January, during which parents join their child's class for the second half of their school day and then gather together for snacks and a sing-a-long)
  • Spring Carnival/Bike Parade when the Park West Community comes together at an outside venue for games, activities and a bike parade.
  • An annual music concert held in February, and usually featuring the Grammy-nominated children's group, Ralph's World.

Much of the work involves determining appropriate dates for events and then enlisting committee members to assist with execution. Tasks range from coordination of preparations (e.g. food/drink), to working with Publicity to generate fabulous attendance, to brainstorming with committee members for new event ideas.

The Social Committee, in particular, can make an enormously positive impact on the community with its focus on outreach programs and community building. As with all committee chairs, Social Co-chairs must be willing to make a significant time commitment to fulfill their duties adequately, but most events are spread throughout the calendar year making the commitment feasible.
